Prime Video has officially returned to Beechwood Island, sharing the first production photos from We Were Liars Season 2. The new images confirm that filming is underway and reunite several important members of the Sinclair family. The streamer published the update through its official Prime Video Instagram account on July 9, 2026, writing, “Back on Beechwood. We Were Liars Season 2 is now in production.” The carousel included Emily Alyn Lind, who plays Cadence Sinclair Eastman, embracing Joseph Zada, who returns as Johnny Sinclair.
Other photographs brought together Candice King, Mamie Gummer and Caitlin FitzGerald as the three adult Sinclair sisters, Bess, Carrie and Penny. Rahul Kohli, who plays Ed Patil, was also featured in the production update. The images do not reveal major story details, but they confirm that the show’s present-day characters will remain connected to the new season. Prime Video renewed the mystery drama in September 2025, approximately three months after its first season premiered. The official Amazon MGM Studios renewal announcement confirmed that Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie would return as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. Author E. Lockhart also remains an executive producer.
We Were Liars Season 2 Will Explore the Sinclair Family’s Past
The second season will continue Cadence’s story while introducing a major flashback narrative based partly on Lockhart’s prequel novel, Family of Liars. Cadence returns to Beechwood as she attempts to confront the truth and uncover more of the secrets that have shaped her family.
Her investigation will take the story back to the summer of 1999, when Carrie, Penny and Bess were teenagers. That earlier timeline will explore first love, sibling rivalry, family pressure and a mystery involving murder. Deadline’s Season 2 report confirms that the present-day and flashback stories will unfold alongside each other. The television timeline is not identical to the original Family of Liars novel, which tells its central story in an earlier period. The adaptation is moving the Sinclair sisters’ teenage summer to 1999 while retaining the book’s focus on buried trauma, complicated relationships and destructive family secrets.
Several new actors will portray younger members of the Sinclair family. Parker Lapaine has been cast as teenage Carrie, Elysia Roorbach as teenage Penny and Madison Wolfe as teenage Bess. Josh Dallas will portray a younger Harris Sinclair, while Peyton List will play young Tipper. Costa D’Angelo has joined the cast as Lawrence “Pfeff” Pfefferman. The six additions were confirmed in a Variety casting report, which also established that Season 2 would expand the Sinclair family history rather than simply repeat the structure of the first season.
