Warner Bros. has confirmed a new Harry Potter release just weeks before the franchise returns to screens in an entirely new form. The Harry Potter Collection 25th Anniversary Library Case, a lavish 4K UHD steelbook set collecting all eight films, is set for release in the UK on October 5, according to MovieWeb, giving the films a clear run at the holiday market roughly two months ahead of HBO’s television reboot.
The set houses each of the eight films in its own individual 4K steelbook, all packaged inside a steel library case, with a Blu-ray bonus features disc accompanying every film. That brings the collection to 16 discs before extras are even counted. A ninth steelbook is dedicated entirely to paper collectibles, including a certificate of authenticity, a reproduction of the Marauder’s Map, a map of Diagon Alley, eight travel posters, and a sticker sheet, as detailed by ScreenRant. Pricing and pre-order information have not yet been announced.
The timing lines up deliberately with two separate milestones. November marks 25 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first hit theaters in 2001, so an early-October release gets the set into stores ahead of that anniversary. It also arrives just before Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres as an HBO series on December 25, starring Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout in the roles Led by the iconic trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint
This isn’t the first time the franchise has gotten the steelbook treatment. MovieWeb notes the film series has already seen at least two prior steel-cased 4K box sets, making this new library case at least the third iteration of the format for the eight-film saga, whose theatrical run grossed close to $8 billion worldwide between 2001 and 2011.
The steelbook announcement also continues what’s been a busy stretch of Harry Potter tie-in releases building toward the HBO series. This follows the recent announcement of two new “Pocket Potters” illustrated guidebooks centered on Hagrid and Dobby. According to ScreenRant, the books are scheduled for release on August 13 in the UK. as well as an eight-part official film podcast that launched on HBO Max earlier this year, hosted by Rhianna Dhillon, according to CBR.
The HBO series itself has been in development since Warner Bros. Discovery first confirmed it back in 2023, initially planned as a Max Original before moving under the HBO banner. As Deadline reports, the first season adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone across eight episodes, with the larger project structured as a decade-long adaptation covering all seven books. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, according to USA Today.
Along with the steelbook collection, the new Pocket Potters books, and the upcoming film podcast — all releasing in the months leading up to December 25 — Warner Bros. appears to be treating the anniversary and the reboot’s arrival as one extended rollout rather than two separate events.
