At its 2026 Apple TV Press Day event in Santa Monica, Apple confirmed that Way of the Warrior Kid, its family drama starring Chris Pratt, will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, November 20, 2026. Pratt, Linda Cardellini, Jude Hill, and author Jocko Willink appeared on stage together to make the announcement, according to Apple’s own press release.
The Story Behind the Film
The movie adapts Willink’s bestselling 2017 children’s novel of the same name. Jude Hill plays Marc, a bullied, self-doubting middle schooler who’s struggling both academically and socially. Everything shifts when his injured uncle Jake, played by Pratt, a decorated Navy SEAL, moves in to recover for the summer. Rather than teaching Marc to fight, Jake builds a program he calls “Operation Warrior Kid,” using SEAL-inspired discipline to help his nephew build real confidence, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Why Pratt Took the Role
Speaking with Deadline, Pratt described what drew him to the character, saying Jake represents ScreenRant reports “a mindful portrayal of healthy masculinity” that he feels is missing from a lot of current pop culture aimed at young audiences. It’s a notably different register for Pratt, who’s spent much of the past few years in higher-octane military and action roles.
A Softer Companion Piece to ‘The Terminal List’
Way of the Warrior Kid arrives as something of a tonal counterpart to Pratt’s other Navy SEAL project. As Collider notes, the second season of Pratt’s Prime Video thriller The Terminal List premieres October 21, 2026, just a month before Way of the Warrior Kid debuts. Where that show leans into violent, high-stakes conspiracy plotting, this new film keeps things family-friendly, trading combat for character-building.

Behind the Camera
The film is directed by McG, working from a script by Will Staples, and produced through David Ellison‘s Skydance Media in partnership with Apple Studios. According to MovieWeb, the supporting cast also includes Ava Torres, Levi McConaughey, Darien Sills-Evans, Carl McDowell, and Parker Young.
What’s Next
Willink’s original book spawned multiple sequels, and ScreenRant has noted the film carries potential to launch a broader series for Pratt if it performs well, similar in spirit to how his past franchise work has expanded over time. For now, the only confirmed date is the one Apple has already locked in: Way of the Warrior Kid streams globally on Apple TV starting November 20, 2026.
