I felt alive.” What follows is two minutes of art heists, skyscraper scaling, hand-to-hand combat, and a cat-and-mouse romance — and the strongest argument yet that Amazon MGM’s most ambitious 2027 bet is going to pay off.
Amazon MGM dropped the first official trailer for “The Thomas Crown Affair” on Wednesday, confirming a March 5, 2027 theatrical release. Jordan directs and stars — his second time doing both, after 2023’s “Creed III” — and the film marks the third version of the story since Norman Jewison’s 1968 original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo that became its own commercial hit, Variety noted.
This one, though, isn’t just a fresh coat of paint. Jordan told Variety back in November that he went into the project deliberately trying to distance himself from both prior versions. “I didn’t want a reboot. I wanted a reimagination,” he said. “The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today. Ours is more personal. The stakes are higher. Still got the fashion, romance.” True to that instinct, Variety’s coverage of the trailer reveals that Crown’s real motivation isn’t profit — it’s repatriation, returning stolen or sold cultural artifacts to their original creators.
Adria Arjona plays the former FBI insurance investigator hunting him, and the trailer makes clear the pursuit gets personal fast. The cast also includes Kenneth Branagh as what ActionEwz described as an “insidious” antagonist threatening to take Crown down from a different direction, alongside Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk in undisclosed roles. Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste scored the film, Consequence confirmed, a choice that fits the project’s emphasis on style and tone as much as action.
The screenplay comes from Drew Pearce and Jason Hall — Pearce previously worked on “The Fall Guy,” Hall on “American Sniper” — based on an original story by Pearce and Alan R. Trustman, who wrote the 1968 film and is credited as executive producer on this version, Deadline reported. Jordan produces alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Charles Roven, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff.
The moment is well-timed for Jordan. He picked up the Best Actor Oscar earlier this year for “Sinners,” Gold Derby noted, and the trailer’s release comes just days after he turned up at Monday night’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” world premiere. The heist footage audiences saw at CinemaCon in April was only a first look — this full trailer is the first time the general public has seen the actual scope of what Jordan has put together, Rolling Stone pointed out.
