Prime Video has released the first official images from its long-awaited limited series Blade Runner 2099, giving audiences their initial look at Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer in the next chapter of the iconic science-fiction franchise.
The exclusive first-look photos were published by Entertainment Weekly and quickly picked up by other major outlets. They show Yeoh and Schafer in a radically changed Los Angeles defined by bright, harsh sunlight rather than the rain and neon of previous films. Additional galleries and analysis appeared on Collider.
The First Images and Key Characters
In the newly released stills, Michelle Yeoh appears as Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner who knows the exact date of her own expiration. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive who has survived by posing as a Blade Runner. The images emphasize a “sunshine noir” visual approach, with sticky heat and practical, in-camera environments.
As reported by ScreenRant, Olwen is hunting a group of missing rogue replicants in the final days of her life. Cora becomes her reluctant partner. Their relationship forms the emotional center of the story. Further details on the character designs were also covered by CBR.
Series Premise
Blade Runner 2099 is set 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. A successful replicant uprising has overturned the old power structure. Replicants now rule the city while humans live as second-class citizens.
The series explores familiar franchise themes — identity, memory, mortality, and the meaning of being human — from a reversed perspective. Showrunner Silka Luisa has described the project as imagining “what comes after us” and examining what humanity means in a world where it is no longer dominant.
Creative Team and Production
Silka Luisa created and wrote the series. Ridley Scott and Michael Green are among the executive producers. The creative team consulted Scott on key points of mythology and visual language while also drawing from Philip K. Dick’s original novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.
Filming wrapped in late 2024. The project spent an extended period in post-production. Earlier confirmation that the series was targeting a 2026 window came from Deadline.
Premiere Date Confirmed
All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 will premiere simultaneously on November 25, 2026. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories.
The premiere date and first trailer were revealed during Prime Video’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. Coverage of the trailer and official confirmation appeared on JoBlo and CBR.
Franchise Context
The original Blade Runner (1982) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) established the franchise’s philosophical core. Blade Runner 2099 continues that lineage while shifting the balance of power. Yeoh’s character Olwen deliberately echoes and inverts Roy Batty’s arc from the 1982 film, this time told from the replicant’s point of view.
Additional first-look context and early reactions were reported by The Playlist.
Blade Runner 2099 now stands as one of the most anticipated science-fiction releases of late 2026. With official images now released and a confirmed November 25 premiere date, the series is shifting from a long-rumored project to an imminent release.
