Season 4 of “Reacher” doesn’t even premiere until August 12. Prime Video isn’t waiting around.
Deadline broke the news Wednesday that Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Amanda Ip, and Ciara Bravo have all been confirmed as series regulars for Season 5, joining Alan Ritchson before the show’s current season has even aired its first episode. Production is already underway in Ontario, Canada, under the codename “HONCHO,” with Ritchson himself announcing the first day of shooting on social media last week.
Baruchel’s casting carries a minor wrinkle worth noting. ScreenRant reported that he was originally set to appear in Season 4 before being recast, making his Season 5 booking something of a second shot at the franchise. He’ll play Buck Bauer, the police chief of Mother’s Rest — the remote Oklahoma town at the center of the new season’s mystery. Durand, fresh off “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Naked Gun,” plays a character named Nokes. Ip, known from “Transplant” and “Cross,” takes on Michelle Chang, described in the character breakdown as a former FBI agent turned private investigator who pairs up with Reacher to work the case. Bravo, who starred in “Voicemails for Isabelle,” rounds out the four as a woman named Eunice, per Collider.
What the Season’s Actually About
The book source was already confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con: Season 5 adapts “Make Me,” the 20th entry in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, published in 2015. Yahoo Entertainment covered the Comic-Con reveal, which happened during the “Reacher’s Back and Neagley’s In” panel, where both the Season 4 trailer and the new “Neagley” spinoff debut were shown to fans. In Make Me, Reacher visits the town of Mother’s Rest after its unusual name catches his attention, only to discover a community where residents refuse to offer answers. It gets worse from there.
The Buck Bauer character doesn’t appear in the source novel at all, MovieWeb noted, suggesting the show is already shaping the adaptation around its own needs rather than sticking strictly to the book’s cast of characters.
A Franchise That Keeps Growing
The renewals and spinoffs keep coming partly because the numbers demand it. Season 3 pulled in 54.6 million viewers globally in its first 19 days, making it the most-watched season on Prime Video since “Fallout” launched over the same timeframe, per KVON. Amazon MGM Studios greenlit Season 5 back in May — still two months before Season 4 had aired — with studio head Peter Friedlander describing the show as describing it as a franchise that continues to dominate, with no indication of slowing down.
Season 4, which adapts “Gone Tomorrow” and premieres August 12, runs eight episodes before concluding September 16. That same day, the “Neagley” spinoff — all eight episodes at once — launches on Prime Video, with Maria Sten reprising her role as Frances Neagley in a solo story that follows the character into a perilous mission of her own, per the Reacher Fandom Wiki. Ritchson is expected to appear in “Neagley” as well, though in what capacity hasn’t been spelled out.
Season 5, with its four newly confirmed cast members and cameras already rolling, is tentatively expected sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.
