Chris Pratt is officially heading back into the field as Navy SEAL James Reece, with Prime Video confirming “The Terminal List” will return for Season 2 on October 21, more than four years after the show’s first season turned into a streaming phenomenon. Prime Video made the announcement at Amazon’s Upfronts presentation back in May, alongside confirmation that all eight episodes will drop at once, matching Season 1’s release format, according to Screen Rant’s recap of the reveal.
Season 2 shifts source material, moving from Jack Carr’s original novel to “True Believer,” the second book in his James Reece series. Where Season 1 followed Reece’s methodical revenge mission after his platoon and family were killed, the new season finds him searching for purpose after finishing that list, expanding what was a contained psychological thriller into a globe-trotting espionage story stretching across the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, according to the official synopsis distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. Pratt described the tonal shift himself at the Upfronts, calling the new season “more intense and ambitious than anything we did in the first season,” comments Deadline carried from the presentation.
Production wrapped in Toronto last October, with author Jack Carr sharing behind-the-scenes footage on social media to mark the occasion, footage that showed Pratt navigating dense jungle terrain alongside co-stars Luke Hemsworth and Tom Hopper, according to Collider’s coverage of the wrap announcement. Post-production continued into March, pushing the show’s total gap between seasons past four years, a delay CBR attributes largely to Pratt’s crowded film schedule in the years since Season 1 premiered in 2022.
The extended wait hasn’t left the franchise entirely dormant. “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf,” a prequel spinoff following Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards on his path from Navy SEAL to CIA operative, filled the gap when it premiered in August 2025, giving fans a bridge into Season 2’s world while the main series finished production. Kitsch is expected to appear in Season 2 alongside Reece, joined by returning cast members Constance Wu, Gabriel Luna, LaMonica Garrett and Riley Keough, with Martin Sensmeier, known for “Westworld” and “The Magnificent Seven,” joining the ensemble as Sergeant Major Otaktay, a new recurring character, IMDb confirmed when the casting was first reported.
Authenticity remains central to how the show markets itself. Executive producers Jared Shaw, a former Navy SEAL, and Max Adams, a former Army Ranger, oversee the season’s action and technical accuracy, joined by additional military veterans working as writers, actors and on-set advisors, including former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza, who also directed the war film “Warfare,” according to details published on Jack Carr’s official site.
Pratt has also floated expanding the franchise’s cast in more unexpected directions, telling interviewers he’d love to work Arnold Schwarzenegger into the show using a character from later books, joking, “I think it would be so f***ing epic,” comments TVInsider captured in a separate interview.
“The Terminal List” Season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video, with Season 2 arriving October 21.
