The first trailer for I Play Rocky has been released, giving audiences their initial look at the biographical drama about the making of the original Rocky film. Anthony Ippolito portrays a young Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming movie directed by Peter Farrelly.

The trailer highlights Stallone’s real-life struggle to write and star in the original Rocky after facing repeated rejections from studios. It highlights his determination to play the lead role in the story he created.

    Trailer Captures Stallone’s Underdog Spirit

Early footage shows Ippolito recreating Stallone’s voice, posture, and personality as he fights to keep control of his screenplay. According to Variety, the teaser effectively captures the tension and spirit of the original underdog story.

The project has generated significant interest as it arrives ahead of the 50th anniversary of the 1976 classic. Hollywood Reporter noted that the film explores how an unknown actor bet everything on himself to become Rocky Balboa.

    Strong Ensemble Cast

The film features a notable supporting cast, including Stephan James as Carl Weathers, AnnaSophia Robb as Stallone’s first wife Sasha Czack, and Matt Dillon as Stallone’s father. Additional cast members include P.J. Byrne, Toby Kebbell, Tracy Letts, and Jay Duplass. According to Rotten Tomatoes, I Play Rocky explores Stallone’s unwavering belief that he was destined to both write and play the lead role in Rocky.

    November Release Date Confirmed

The dates were chosen to align with the 50th anniversary of the original Rocky film. Hollywood Reporter reported that the Thanksgiving window positions the film as a potential awards contender.
