The Batman Part II Delayed Again to 2028 as Warner Bros. Shifts Schedule

Hanry DawsonBy Hanry DawsonJuly 15, 2026 Screen Daily Voice

Warner Bros. has once again delayed The Batman Part II, pushing the release date to 2028. The move comes as the studio continues to adjust its theatrical release calendar amid ongoing shifts in its film slate.

The sequel, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, was previously eyed for a 2027 release. However, Warner Bros. has now moved the film back by another year. This marks the latest in a series of delays the project has faced since it was first announced.

    A Long-Awaited Sequel

The original The Batman (2022) was both a critical and commercial hit, earning strong reviews and grossing over $772 million worldwide. The film’s grounded tone and Pattinson’s performance as Bruce Wayne generated significant fan excitement for a sequel.

Matt Reeves has been working on the script with Mattson Tomlin. While the story is expected to build on the events of the first film, development has moved slower than anticipated, contributing to the repeated delays.

    Why the Delay?

Warner Bros. has not provided an official reason for the latest postponement. However, sources suggest the studio is reorganizing its release schedule, possibly to better space out its major tentpole films. This isn’t the first time The Batman Part II has been pushed back — the project has already seen multiple date changes over the past two years.

    What This Means for Fans

The shift to 2028 means fans will have to wait longer for the next chapter in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. While some may be disappointed by the extended wait, others believe the additional time could allow Reeves to deliver a stronger and more polished film.

Robert Pattinson is expected to return as Batman. It is also anticipated that Jeffrey Wright, Zoë Kravitz, and Colin Farrell will reprise their respective roles as Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and the Penguin.

    Looking Ahead

With the new 2028 release window now in place, attention will turn to when production is expected to begin and whether Warner Bros. will provide any new updates on the story or additional casting in the coming months.

For now, The Batman Part II is scheduled to hit theaters in 2028. It remains to be seen whether the film will hold this date or face further adjustments as Warner Bros. continues to refine its release strategy.
