Netflix has released the first trailer for One Hundred Years of Solitude: Part Two, giving fans their clearest look yet at the concluding chapter of its adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s landmark novel. According to Deadline, which shared the trailer and first art exclusively, the series will return with seven episodes on August 5, followed by a standalone Grand Finale on August 26.
That finale won’t be a typical episode. As Netflix’s VP of Content for Latin America, Francisco Ramos, explained to Deadline, the story required a “format beyond that of a standard episode” to properly close out the saga. The closing chapter will run as a feature-length installment directed by Laura Mora, effectively splitting Part Two’s ending off from the rest of the season.
Per ComingSoon.net, the new episodes pick up after the signing of an armistice, as fresh political violence and the arrival of Fernanda del Carpio reshape the Buendía family line. Her marriage to Aureliano Segundo gives matriarch Úrsula Iguarán her first legitimate great-grandchildren, while his twin brother José Arcadio Segundo helps bring a railroad — and with it the banana company — to Macondo, setting the town on a path toward the ruin foretold since the very first episode.
The series first arrived on Netflix in late 2024 with an initial eight-episode run, adapting roughly half of García Márquez’s sprawling 1967 novel. As MovieWeb notes, the show has held up remarkably well with critics, sitting at a Certified Fresh 84% on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a 90% audience score, positioning Part Two as one of the platform’s more anticipated returns this year.
The novel itself had long carried a reputation as unfilmable, given its dense, generation-spanning structure and heavy use of magical realism. TechRadar reported that Netflix moved forward with the adaptation only with backing from García Márquez’s own family, and the production was filmed entirely in Colombia. ScreenRant adds that the cast includes Diego Vásquez, Marco Antonio González Ospina, and Claudio Cataño, among a large ensemble spanning the Buendía family’s many generations.
Once Part Two and its Grand Finale have both aired, the series will total 16 regular episodes plus the closing feature-length chapter — bringing García Márquez’s century-spanning story to the screen in full. ScreenRealm describes the new teaser as leaning into that sense of finality, trading the lush, hopeful imagery of the first trailer for a starker, more foreboding tone that matches the town of Macondo’s slow unraveling.
