Obsession Gets Digital Release Following $370M Global Success

Obsession, the breakout supernatural horror film from writer-director Curry Barker, arrived on digital platforms Tuesday after delivering one of the most impressive theatrical runs of 2026.

The low-budget production has grossed approximately $370 million worldwide, establishing itself as Focus Features’ highest-grossing release to date and one of the standout original films of the year.

    A Low-Budget Triumph

The film opened in theaters on May 15 and built steady momentum through strong word-of-mouth. Centered on a young man who breaks a mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, only to face dark consequences, Obsession connected with audiences in a way few expected from a micro-budget project.

Its sustained performance over multiple weeks turned it into a genuine box office phenomenon, drawing repeat viewers and outperforming several larger studio releases as reported by Collider.

    Digital Release Now Available

Focus Features rolled out Obsession for premium video-on-demand purchase and rental on June 30. The title is now accessible on major platforms including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

The studio had initially planned an earlier digital debut but delayed it to capitalize on the film’s continued strong theatrical demand, according to MovieWeb.

A physical release on Blu-ray and 4K UHD is scheduled for mid-July as detailed by IGN.

    Remarkable Box Office Achievement

With a production budget reportedly around $750,000, Obsession has become a major commercial success story. The film’s global earnings highlight the enduring appeal of original horror storytelling and effective audience discovery in theaters as covered by Deadline.

Critics and viewers alike have praised Barker’s direction and the performances by leads Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, contributing to the movie’s cultural impact per updates from Bloody Disgusting and The Hollywood Reporter.

As Obsession transitions to home viewing, it is poised to find new fans while those who saw it theatrically get the chance to revisit its blend of romance, thriller elements, and horror, with additional context from Screen Rant coverage of its success.
