CD Projekt Red and Polish publisher Go On Board have confirmed that The Witcher: Legacy, their third tabletop collaboration set in the world of Geralt of Rivia, is on track for a summer 2027 release, with shipping to backers pinned to June 2027, according to its official Gamefound campaign page.
How We Got Here
The project was first unveiled in July 2025, but it wasn’t until its crowdfunding campaign launched on Gamefound on November 25, 2025, that the scale of anticipation became clear. The campaign entered launch day already the most-followed project in Gamefound’s history, surpassing 67,000 pre-launch followers, according to CD Projekt Red’s press center. It went on to hit its initial €100,000 funding goal within roughly four minutes of going live, per GamesHub.
What Players Will Actually Do
The Witcher: Legacy is built as a story-driven campaign for one to four players, playable solo or cooperatively. Players step into the boots of surviving Wolf School witchers, traveling across the region of Kaedwen and the wider Northern Kingdoms to track down whoever orchestrated the attack that devastated their school. Along the way, players manage an evolving deck of combat actions, brew potions from an expanding alchemy book, and make decisions that carry forward permanently into future play sessions, according to ScreenRant.
That last part is the defining feature of “legacy” board games as a genre: rather than resetting after each session, players alter the physical components themselves — unlocking sealed boxes, applying stickers, and writing directly on cards and maps — so that choices made early in a campaign have lasting consequences dozens of sessions later.
A Story Set Before Geralt’s Time
Unlike CD Projekt Red’s video games, Legacy is set generations before Geralt of Rivia ever picked up a silver sword. Its narrative unfolds in the aftermath of the attack on Kaer Morhen, exploring an earlier chapter of witcher history that hasn’t been dramatized in the games or novels before now. CD Projekt Red’s VP of business development, Jan Rosner, said the studio was excited to keep expanding the Witcher universe into territory the games and books haven’t yet covered, according to Wargamer.
Following a Bestseller
Legacy has a high bar to clear. Its predecessor, 2022’s The Witcher: Old World, ranks among the ten biggest board game crowdfunding campaigns ever run and has sold more than 192,000 copies worldwide, per the official Witcher site. Go On Board, founded in 2015, has built its reputation on exactly this kind of high-production, narrative-heavy crowdfunding release, with past hits including Valhalla, Titans, and Cyberpunk 2077: The Board Game.
Pricing and How to Get It
Backers can currently pledge for a Standard Edition priced at €109, or a Deluxe Edition roughly €65 more, both payable in interest-free monthly installments through Gamefound‘s Stretch Pay option. The game will ship in English, Polish, German, French, Italian, Czech, and Spanish editions, confirming a simultaneous worldwide release, according to Yardbarker. Anyone who backs the campaign on day one also receives an exclusive Gorgon monster miniature that has never appeared in any prior Witcher game or board game.
Why the Timing Matters
The summer 2027 release lands Legacy in the same general window as The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red’s next mainline video game centered on Ciri, which is also targeting a 2027 launch. Between the two releases, 2027 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the franchise’s transition beyond Geralt’s story — one told on the tabletop, and the other on consoles and PC.
