Spider-Man: Brand New Day Producer Explains Secrecy Around Sadie Sink’s MCU Role

Hanry DawsonBy Hanry DawsonJuly 13, 2026 Screen Daily Voice

Spider-Man: Brand New Day producer Amy Pascal has compared the secrecy surrounding Sadie Sink’s unidentified MCU character to the carefully protected multiverse surprises in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Sink has been confirmed as part of the film’s cast for more than a year, but Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have still not officially revealed the name of her character. Despite trailers, promotional videos and widespread fan theories, the studios appear determined to preserve the mystery until the film reaches cinemas on July 31, 2026.

Amy Pascal Compares the Secret to No Way Home

Speaking about the decision to protect Sink’s character, Pascal pointed to the enormous speculation that surrounded Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As reported by GamesRadar, Pascal described the return of the three Spider-Men as the “worst-kept secret in Hollywood.” Although many viewers believed the rumours, the producers continued protecting the reveal until audiences could experience it in cinemas.

Pascal suggested that the same thinking is guiding the handling of Sink’s role. She said that “people love to be surprised” and do not necessarily want every major character or plot development confirmed before seeing a movie.

Her comments indicate that the mystery is not simply the result of an unfinished marketing plan. Keeping Sink’s identity hidden appears to be a deliberate creative decision intended to give audiences a genuine theatrical surprise.

Sadie Sink Was Offered the Role Without an Audition

The secrecy began before production officially started. In an interview with NYLON, Sink revealed that she was offered the role without an audition.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton had previously worked with her on the 2017 drama The Glass Castle, which allowed him to approach her directly for the unidentified character.

Sink also said she did not receive the screenplay until she arrived in London for filming. That unusual process limited how much information could circulate before production began and reduced the possibility of important character details leaking.

People also covered the no-audition casting process and reported that the screenplay was withheld until Sink reached the filming location.

Sink Describes Entering the Spider-Man Franchise

Joining an established franchise presented a different challenge for Sink, who entered a cast already led by Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.

During an interview covered by Deadline, Sink described herself as something of an outsider when she first joined the production. However, she said Holland was welcoming, relaxed and open while working with her.

Sink also described the scale of the Marvel production as “really big” and called blockbuster filmmaking “a whole different beast.” Her comments offered some insight into her experience without revealing anything specific about the character she plays.

Online Theories Appeared Before Her Casting Was Confirmed

The speculation surrounding Sink began even before her involvement was officially announced.

According to ScreenRant, Sink discovered online posts claiming she would appear in the next Spider-Man movie before she had been formally told about the opportunity.

She initially treated the posts as ordinary internet speculation. Soon afterwards, she learned that she really was being considered for the film. The unusual timing showed how quickly casting rumours were spreading, even while the studio was attempting to control official information.

Since her casting became public in March 2025, fans have connected Sink to several Marvel characters, including Jean Grey, Firestar, Mayday Parker and Rachel Cole-Alves. None of those identities has been confirmed.

Marvel Is Keeping Sink Out of the Spotlight

The secrecy has continued throughout the film’s promotional campaign.

ComicBook.com reported that Sink’s face has not been clearly shown in the trailers. Promotional footage has instead offered brief glimpses of a hooded figure believed to be her character.

In a promotional video, Sink jokingly confirmed that she was not playing Spider-Man or Aunt May. She then told viewers that they would have to wait until the movie’s theatrical release to discover her real identity.

The decision to minimise Sink’s presence is notable because she is one of the most recognisable new members of the cast following her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things. Ordinarily, a studio would place an actor with that level of recognition at the centre of a major marketing campaign.

Marvel and Sony are instead using her absence to create more discussion around the film.

Is Sadie Sink Playing Jean Grey?

Jean Grey remains the most widely discussed theory, but it has not been officially confirmed.

A trailer analysis published by Den of Geek connected a mysterious hooded figure with a psychic event affecting New York City. Because Jean Grey is one of Marvel’s most powerful telepathic mutants, the footage has strengthened theories that Sink could introduce a new version of the X-Men character.

Her apparent yellow-and-green clothing has also been compared with colours Jean has worn in Marvel Comics. However, costumes, trailer editing and unexplained psychic events are not enough to confirm the character’s identity.

The trailers may be providing genuine clues, but they could also be intentionally encouraging an incorrect theory to protect a different surprise.

When Will Sadie Sink’s Character Be Revealed?

All official signs currently suggest that Sink’s character will remain secret until Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in cinemas.

The official Marvel movie page confirms that the film will be released on July 31, 2026. It also lists Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo among the main cast.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie follows Peter Parker as he fights crime in a New York City where nobody remembers his identity. As the pressure surrounding Spider-Man increases, Peter begins experiencing a dangerous physical evolution that threatens his existence.

With Amy Pascal now directly comparing Sink’s mystery to the multiverse secrecy of No Way Home, the producers appear confident that withholding the answer will make the eventual reveal more effective.

Fans may have theories, trailer clues and possible comic-book connections, but the identity of Sadie Sink’s MCU character is expected to remain officially unknown until Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives exclusively in cinemas on July 31, 2026.
